Loop Tack Test

Loop Tack Test

Vertical tensile testing machine for testing the initial adhesion ("Loop Tack") FINAT* FTM 9 and ASTM**** D6195

The ZIEGLER Loop Tack Test testing device is a vertical tensile testing machine specifically developed for measuring initial tack ("Loop Tack"). It is tailored to the requirements of manufacturers, processors, and users of adhesive composite materials and, in its specifications, complies with the testing standards of FINAT* and AFERA**.

The device enables the testing of initial tack (Loop Tack) of materials according to the standards FINAT* FTM 9 and ASTM**** D6195. It combines easy application with precise measurement results.

Testable Materials

  • Adhesive tapes
  • Adhesives
  • Labels
  • Self-adhesive films
  • Materials with related properties

Working Principle

The device is a vertical tensile testing machine. The feed unit is designed as a movable sample clamp. The lower sample insertion clamp for the sample plates is rigidly connected to the 50 N force transducer. The tests are carried out at a constant tensile speed. The zero point of the measuring cell is automatically set before the measurement. When connected to a PC, the measurement data is automatically sent to it and can be evaluated and processed using the software provided.

Testing Methods

The ZIEGLER Loop Tack Test supports the following test methods for determining the properties of pressure-sensitive adhesives and pressure-sensitive composite materials:

  • FINAT* FTM 9 – “Loop-tack” Initial Tack
This method is used to measure the initial tack by applying a loop of the material to be tested to a test surface and then pulling it off again. The force measured in the process is determined as the Loop Tack value.
  • ASTM**** D6195 – Standard Test Method for Loop Tack
This ASTM**** method describes a similar procedure for measuring initial tack under standardized conditions.

Software FT-LOOP

The FT-LOOP software included in the scope of delivery is used for measured value acquisition, evaluation, logging and data storage. Measurements of the tensile testing machine can thus be safely and conveniently automated. The clear and intuitively designed user interface reduces the training time to a minimum.

Functions (Selection)

  • Creation of measurement diagrams
  • Display of current minimum, maximum, average, and peak average values
  • Calculated average values of mean, minimum, and maximum values of several measurements
  • Documentation of the measured values, maximum pull-off value ("Loop-Tack" value) in Newton (N)
  • Storage of measurement data for later evaluation and comparison.
  • Real-time display of measurement progress
  • Export to tables (e.g., Microsoft® Excel®)
